Setting your day up for success
Corpus Diem – Seize the Day…
Traditionally this starts the night before. Traditionally, I go to bed let’s say around 2100, with 2140 being the point that I’m almost passing out from tiredness.
How To Switch Off your devices
No devices, e.g. SMART phones, iPads are switched off and left in another room (in flight mode), plugged in and charging. We have an emergency landline number which people can use to contact us in the event of an absolute emergency but this is known only to a select few. My advice is to do the same.
Amazingly a lot of people don’t know how to switch their devices (in particular their iPads to flight/do NOT disturb/zero notifications mode) so we made a video on this.
Normally this means I take 6-7-8 hours sleep and this generally wakes me up between 0400-0500. I sleep on a very quiet street with the room blacked out, together with my 3.5 year old daughter. She continues to sleep soundly until about 0730-0800. This gives me a valuable 3-4 hour window to get a lot of things done before my colleague comes to the home office around 0800.
I leave my devices switched off until my daughter is safely inside the pre-school/kindergarten. This is normally approximately 0815-0830. I’m walking with my dog with the Apple earpods now in and I normally begin my day gently by listening to some podcasts. Current favorites are:
- 100$ MBA Show
- Dean Graziosi (helps me to practice gratitude, in his words ‘150 000 people around the world died yesterday, will die today, and tomorrow and so forth. So far I have not been amongst these people so it’s now time to reach out there and be successful).
- Frank Kern (and his horrendous bright yellow background)
- Salesman Podcast (one good thing here is Will, the host, is from the UK so a lot of the things he touches on are from
0400 – 0500 normally practiced doing these things
Water – I drink this water (from glass bottle only) that has been put through magnetic fields such as the BUDMAG devices. I drink a large pint glass of it. It’s unbelievable at flushing out toxins from your body.
We spend most of our day in a SEDENTARY position
It doesn’t matter how you spend your day, whether you’re accountants like MyTeamGroup.com, whether you’re SMARTHome repair specialists like NanoTechData.com, whether you’re working to repair peoples’ hair with the excellent SMARTHair trychology practice from dermodesigns.com. We spend most of our day in a SEDENTARY position (seated position – from driving, sitting in front of a screen, sitting talking to clientsI
So I like to practice YOGA to practice my stretching, waking up to the day. Let’s face it guys we’re going to spend most of our day seated, hunched over in front of our tiny MacBook screens and this is a welcome opportunity to stretch, bend, flex and elongate our spines. I practice Yoga Dose with Tim Sensei, so full credit to Tim and his colleague (the video series I’m currently watching he’s injured and his female colleague has replaced him – I have a particular weakness for females in tight fitting yoga pants and it makes it let’s say quite difficult to concentrate on things)
Green Drink
Breakfast – Before going to kindergarten, I will have the famous green drink (link to this Marcin as well…and some porridge with my daughter. Porridge (finely milled oats that have been left to seep overnight in warm milk as they expand and provide less of a shock to our system)… is a great way of reducing cholesterol and of warming up your insides for the day ahead.
Then I sit down and COMPOSE myself for the day. In other words prepare. I feel that the best way to do this is to go on FACEBOOK LIVE (I have several FACEBOOK FOR BUSINESS pages as opposed to just going onto Facebook, posting a picture of your breakfast/dinner/supper and gaining LIKES which you can’t eat, consume, or use as a form of monetary exchange)
Facebook Live DAILY
I try to do a Facebook Live DAILY usually around 0530-0600. Usually I don’t have a lot of engagements at that time (because there are delays with the comments so apologies guys if I don’t respond to your questions in real time)…
I have it all setup in advance, my tripod, my 3 point lighting system from Amazon, my microphones (Sennheiser) and my camera mounted in a secure mount (be careful guys you don’t accidentally mute the microphone when inserting the SMARTPhone into the mounting system by clicking accidentally on the volume controls to the side – this has happened to me once – felt so proud and all of the content I’d just prepared!)
The POST-IT Trick
Unless someone has been living in a cage for the past few years you will know what a POST-IT NOTE is… I take about 5-10 of these and I affix them to a nearby window (they usually stick a lot better on windows) don’t accept or try to purchase an imitation product. The gum in fresh POST-IT Notes is much better. It sticks much better.
I then normally use between 5-10 post-it notes on the window and I use them as reference as I move from one point to the next. This way it ALMOST looks that I know what I’m talking about.
The Rehearsal
I usually do one dry rehearsal looking at myself in the camera (trying not to get too shocked as I imagine people entering the room and hanging around)
By the time I come back I have a list of 5 things that have got my priority for the day. I enter them into my GOOGLE PLAYBOOK and I define timeslices for them.
I try to follow the Tony Robbins teachings of we should UNDERESTIMATE what we can get done in FIVE DAYS and OVERESTIMATE the types of challenges we can overcome within let’s say FIVE YEARS…
How to Improve your copy..
Like all of us, we’re all out there trying to improve our copy, our written word, our compelling message to you our fellow Internetters. I tend to leave my phone on silent mode for the first 2 hours at least this gives me a head start on the competition I believe. I try not to schedule calls with clients before 1100 or better yet 1130. I reserve 2 days of the week for focusing on deeper dives into things. This is normally Tuesdays and Thursdays. Trying to work constantly on improving my copy, on tweaking the words that I use…
